A father raises awareness after his 14-year-old daughter dies after inhaling deodorant.

After suffering a cardiac arrest in May 2022, the body of Giorgia Green, a resident of Derby, England, was discovered lifeless in her room.

The sudden and unexpected nature of their daughter's passing has left her parents, Clare and Paul Green, in a state of complete and utter disbelief.

Inhaling Deodorant

Tragedy struck the Green family on May 11, 2022 when Giorgia, who was autistic, was found unresponsive in her bedroom by her older brother.

According to the New York Post, her father, Paul Green, stated that Giorgia had a unique coping mechanism for feeling anxious: she would spray deodorant on a blanket and wrap herself in it, as it made her feel relaxed and calm.

The deodorant in question was a brand used by Giorgia's mother. The exact amount of deodorant used before the incident is unclear, but it is believed to have been more than the typical amount used for personal hygiene.

The cause of death was determined to be consistent with inhalation of aerosol. The medical examiner was unable to determine the exact cause of death.

Father Raises Awareness

The parents of a 14-year-old girl who died after inhaling aerosol deodorant are raising awareness about the potential dangers of the products and calling for clearer labeling.

The Insider reports that Giorgia's father, Paul Green, wants to ensure that no other family has to go through the same tragedy as his and is calling for labels to include the warning "solvent use can kill instantly."

The British Aerosol Manufacturers' Association (BAMA) stated that they take any incident involving aerosol products seriously and are deeply saddened by Giorgia's death.

BAMA also pointed out that, by law, aerosol deodorants must have the warning "keep out of reach of children" printed on them, but Giorgia's parents argue that the writing is small and many parents may not notice it.

Giorgia's death serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of understanding the potential dangers of everyday products.

The incident has sparked a call for better awareness and understanding of the potential dangers of aerosol products and for clearer labeling to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

The Green family hopes that by raising awareness about this issue, Giorgia's death will not be in vain.

The Dangers of Inhaling Aerosol Deodorant

The BBC reported that the passing of a 14-year-old girl, Giorgia, who died after breathing in aerosol deodorant, has ignited a demand for more consciousness about the potential risks of these items.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), "deodorant" was noted on 11 death tolls between 2001 and 2020. However, the genuine number of fatalities is likely to be higher, as explicit substances are not always noted on death certificates.

Butane, which is the primary component of Giorgia's deodorant, was recorded as having been involved in 324 deaths between 2001 and 2020.

Propane and isobutane, which were also found in Giorgia's deodorant, were noted in 123 and 38 deaths, respectively.

The ONS reported that inhalation of these substances can lead to cardiac arrest. Giorgia's parents, Clare and Paul Green, have raised nearly $4,000 to address the dangers of aerosol spray use.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring and comprehending one-of-a-kind coping mechanisms and the potential hazards associated with them.
