The TV personality went all out with honesty on her thoughts about marriage and how most people she knew did not want to be married any longer.
La La Anthony claimed that most of the married people she knew were "miserable" in their marriage.
She said these words when she guest-co-hosted in The Breakfast Club last week with DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, according to The Insider.
"I don't hear people who aren't married saying like, 'I wanna get married.' You just start hearing it less and less. Like, before, that was a goal. I'm not in conversation with people who are like, 'I can't wait to meet someone and get married.' Most, I'm not saying all, I'm being careful with my words, most married people that I know are miserable. And not happy. And don't wanna be married," Anthony stated.
She continued by saying that these married people she knew now preferred to be single.
A shift of perspective
Marriage lost its value because of social media, Anthony declared, with people losing personal connections these days because direct messages (DMs) are so available and accessible.
The actress was married to NBA star Carmelo Anthony for a decade until she filed for divorce in 2021 because of her ex-husband's alleged infidelities. It was reported that the two had already separated for quite sometime before the divorce was filed.
The couple's married life has been available for the public to see from 2011 to 2014, as it has been documented through their reality television series - "La La's Full Court Life."
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she shared how deciding to walk away from her marriage was "incredibly hard." Walking away, being on her own, and rebuilding herself was hard because being with Carmelo since he was 19 years old was all she had ever known, the Atlanta Black Star recalled.
The actress' perspective on marriage has shifted after the divorce and all the pain and difficulties it has brought along with it.
All for love
However, many fans do not agree with her shifted view on marriage.
In The Breakfast Club's Instagram account, Anthony's claim sparked a debate about whether marriage is a "dying goal" for couples. Some agreed with the actress that it isn't their goal anymore, but most are still "all for love," as they say.
One commenter stated that she has been happily married for 21 years and that love, healthy marriage, and doing life together is still the goal. She continued saying that people just need to set aside social media's low standards and expectations.
Do not let Anthony and the two DJs "fool you," another commented, noting that marriage is still valuable and beautiful, that healthy marriages still exist and can be done.
A guy commented that nobody could change his perspective on marriage. He will not only be married but he will be happily married.
Someone also expressed that if the marriage did not work for Anthony, it does not mean it would not work for others, adding that she apparently just married the wrong man.
Anthony also shared how she would not be surprised and would understand if their son, Keyon Carmelo Anthony, would have doubts and apprehensions about marriage. She said that he did witness a broken marriage; thus, she does not expect him to see getting married as an "incredible thing."
In a separate guesting last week at The Jennifer Hudson Show, the actress shared how their son is "protective" of her dating again since the divorce. She also added that he prefers her to stay single.
