A viral TikTok video showed the adorable baby boy holding his mother's IUD or intrauterine device, a birth control instrument.
The 20-year-old mother, Violet Quick, from Idaho, shared a video of her baby boy, Rudy, after birthing him.
Funny enough, the baby was carrying his mother's birth control device that was supposed to prevent her from becoming pregnant.
A baby boy holding his mother's IUD
According to NewsTimes, the TikTok video quickly went viral and amassed more than 22.8 million views. Quick captioned it, "when all the nurses come in to see baby with his IUD."
Their baby boy can be seen grabbing his mother's birth control device immediately after his birth.
She added that even the nurses were taken aback by Rudy as they all hurried to meet the baby born despite the IUD.
Violet displayed a clip in which her newborn son happily held up his mother's birth control.
The incident happened a week ago, and the mother did not expect her video to go viral, prompting her to make it private because of the amount of attention it received. However, the video can still be seen stitched by another account.
Becoming aware of her pregnancy
According to Daily Mail, Quick and her husband, John Francis, married when they were 19. The young couple was not yet planning to have a child, so the IUD device became the chosen birth control instrument.
However, after nine months with her Skyla IUD, the 20-year-old mother shared that she experienced frequent nausea for about two weeks. Quick added that she would just throw up multiple times a day.
With that, she took a pregnancy test out of precaution because of her unusual nausea.
Since she had a birth control device in her body, she did not think there was a possibility that she was carrying a child in her womb. She revealed that she was nervous about what was going on with her body.
When the pregnancy test returned a positive result, she was skeptical and did not fully believe it. She took six more pregnancy tests to confirm the results, all of which came back positive, indicating that she was indeed pregnant.
She immediately went to a hospital's emergency room, where it was confirmed that she was seven weeks pregnant.
Can you get pregnant with an IUD?
Getting pregnant with an IUD in place is a rare occurrence, but it can happen. An IUD is a small, T-shaped device inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy.
It is considered a highly effective form of birth control, with a failure rate of less than one percent.
However, according to WebMD, there is still a small chance of getting pregnant with an IUD.
There are several reasons why a woman may become pregnant while using an IUD. One reason is that the IUD may become dislodged or expelled from the uterus without the woman realizing it.
This can occur if the strings attached to the IUD become tangled or the woman engages in strenuous physical activity. In these cases, the IUD no longer provides adequate protection against pregnancy.
Another reason a woman may become pregnant with an IUD in place is the improper insertion of the device.
If the IUD is not placed correctly in the uterus, it may not prevent pregnancy. While it is rare, women can get pregnant even with an IUD device.
