A 5-year-old brings a gun magazine and ammunition to school.

On Monday, February 6, a 5-year-old brought ammunition and a gun magazine to school.

The 5-year-old is a kindergarten student at Porter Elementary School in Syracuse, New York. The confirmed materials were found in the student's backpack.

However, the student was equally shocked and claimed that those materials were not his or did not belong to their household.

According to NBC News, it appears, at this point, that the student was completely unaware of the existence of such things in his bag.

The Syracuse City School District spokesperson confirmed that the incident was at Porter Elementary School by recently sharing the statement from the police.

They clarified that the student's rucksack only contained a pistol magazine and ammo. After a search, law enforcement officers determined that the 5-year-old boy did not have a firearm.

However, it was later found out, as reported by CNYCentral, that the student had a razor blade with him at the time of the incident. The spokesman stated that the blade was never employed in a manner that could be considered threatening.

The spokeswoman did not provide an answer to questions about who was responsible for putting the things in the student's bag and whether or not the student was aware that they were there.

On Tuesday, attempts to get in touch with the police for a further statement were unsuccessful. On Tuesday, an individual who answered the phone at Porter Elementary declined to comment.

Additionally, it has been established that further investigation into the recent occurrence is still being carried out.

The incident at Porter Elementary comes after a devastating shooting that happened last month involving a 6-year-old.

On January 6, there was an incident at the Richneck Elementary School wherein a 6-year-old boy shot his first-grade teacher in the middle of the class.

That incident caused a national uproar unraveling so many questions.

The incident triggered lawmakers, parents, educators, and citizens from all walks of life to question gun control, laws, and firearms access to extremely young children.

According to Giffords Law Center, in the United States, federal law sets the minimum age for purchasing a firearm at 18 years old for a long gun and 21 years old for a handgun.

However, some states have more restrictive laws, setting a higher minimum age for purchasing firearms. Others may have specific exemptions for hunting or other lawful purposes.

Shooting incidents involving minors can have devastating consequences and raise important questions about the availability of firearms and the role of adults in ensuring their safe storage and use.

It is important to note that in many cases involving minors and firearms, the responsibility for ensuring the safe storage of the weapon falls on the adult owner. This can include parents, guardians, or other family members.

In cases where a minor is involved in a shooting, law enforcement may investigate the source of the firearm and determine if it was stored safely and securely.

If it is found that the adult owner of the firearm was negligent in their storage or supervision of the weapon, they may face criminal charges.
