The iconic doll brand American Girl has recently rereleased the iconic twins Isabel and Nicki Hoffman, making millennials feel very old.

American Girl occasionally releases a new historical doll that depicts a particular era in history. However, the twin sisters are just from the 1999 collection.

Yes, it has been 24 long years, and a lot of us cannot help but reminisce about how long ago that was.

American Girl releases historical dolls: Isabel and Nicki Hoffman

According to Mashable, American Girl, the popular doll brand known for its inspiring role models from pivotal eras in American history, has just introduced two new historical dolls: Isabel and Nicki Hoffman.

The fraternal twins, officially released on February 22, 2023, join the brand's long line of historical characters that include figures such as Addy Walker, Felicity Merriman, and Kit Kittredge.

However, Isabel and Nicki hold a special place in American Girl's history as they are the first twin dolls in the brand's historical character line.

Set in Seattle during the year 1999, Isabel and Nicki's stories offer a unique perspective on growing up in the '90s.

TODAY describes Isabel as a bubbly and extroverted character who loves listening to pop music and has a passion for party planning and interior decorating.

Nicki, on the other hand, is thoughtful, introverted, and passionate about skateboarding. Throughout their stories, each twin learns more about who she is as an individual, with Nicki beginning to express herself through zines and song lyrics, while Isabel focuses on her passion for decorating and planning events.

Their shared birthday on May 22, 1990, is the starting point for their journey, as they learn how to get along and support each other.

American Girl are making millennials feel old

According to Fox News, in 2001, American Girl (AG) introduced the "Girl of the Year" collection, which showcases a newly released doll each year with a story set in the present.

Aside from this, the brand also released dolls that represent pivotal eras in American history. For example, Samantha Parkington, Kirsten Larson, and Molly McIntire are some of the dolls that were released, and their stories were set in 1904, 1854, and 1944, respectively.

AG also released other dolls with historical backgrounds dating as far back as 1764 up to the 20th century.

The brand sells these types of dolls for a limited time only on their website. Prior to the release of Isabel and Nicki, Courtney Moore was the most recent historical doll, whose story was set in 1986.

However, the statement that the late '90s are now considered historical did not sit well with many women.

They shared their thoughts on social media, jokingly questioning the brand's claim that Isabel and Nicki Hoffman are now historical dolls, as their stories are set in Seattle during the year 1999.

One user even tweeted about the nostalgia and stated she felt disrespected.

The official American Girl social media account acknowledged the backlash with a tweet expressing regret for causing offense. The brand capitalized on the attention by tweeting, "Didn't mean to hurt so many feelings today."

Sydney Satalino, the founder of the American Girl blog, shared that she assumed new dolls from the 1990s would not be released until later in the decade or even the next decade. She noted that American Girl was a popular brand among girls from the 1990s, and introducing nostalgia for that audience while appealing to younger children whose parents grew up in the 1990s was a smart move.
