It's April Fool's Day, and it's a celebration the entire family can enjoy.

April Fools' Day, which happens every first day of April, has been one of the many celebrated special days by different cultures for several centuries. According to History, it was speculated to have started back in 1582, when France switched to the Gregorian calendar from the Julian calendar, making the new year to January 1 instead of April 1.

A lot did not immediately get the news. Some even failed to recognize the change of the new year date. Thus, there were still a group of people celebrating the new years during the last week of March until April 1. These people became targets for jokes and hoaxes and were ultimately labeled as "April fools."

Eventually, with the help of the media and major brands, April Fool's Day continues with its long life, being celebrated yearly by playing practical jokes or pranks to each other.

April Fool's Day is for kids too

If parents think that today's celebration is not for kids and not meant to be enjoyed by the entire family, they are hugely mistaken.

April Fool's Day is actually the "perfect time to lighten the mood with some harmless yet hilarious" pranks for the children, and a perfect time for the whole family to get some loud laughs.

The tradition lasts for 24 hours, so parents can have an entire day of pranks and jokes planned out for the kids.

As Reader's Digest suggests, go for "jokes and japes that have everyone crying with laughter (rather than just crying), so these are all silly, memory-making high jinks that will get the whole family giggling, no matter who's on the receiving end!"

Just a caution to parents though, do not ever think that the children cannot get back on you with a little pranking too.

This prank is just perfect for the heavy sleepers. While they are still asleep, sneak in and move the furniture around, change the comforters and even swap the kids from one bed to another. When they wake up, rest assured, they will wonder what happened while they were dozing off.

2. Turn their morning milk blue

This is highly-recommended for kids who are Star Wars fans. Place a drop of blue food coloring into a milk carton and place a Star Wars-themed label on it. Pour the milk on their glasses and tell them their milk is specially delivered from the magical place of Tatooine.

3. Let the Easter Bunny bring the jokes

Since Easter Sunday is not far from the calendar, buy some Easter chocolate candies and carefully unpeel the foil cover. Set aside the chocolate candies for later consumption and reuse the foil cover to wrap individual grapes for some sweet and silly surprise. Do not forget to tell them that it was the Easter Bunny's idea!

4. Create the "crazy candy mix"

Mix together Skittles, Reese's Pieces and M&Ms into a big bowl. Wait for the kids to take a handful of the candies and eat. The unusual taste will definitely put a surprise on their faces. The next thing they would do is pick through the bowl a little more carefully.

5. Let them have the crazy "growth spurt"

Serve a vegetable dish for one of the family's meals today like broccoli or Brussels sprouts and emphasize how they will surely grow as a result. Sneak into their bedroom and place tiny tissues into the toes of their shoes or even better, lay out clothes that are one-size-too-small for them. Once they wear these pieces, they would surely have the surprise of their lives that they have grown quite instantly. Who knows this would be the start for them to love the veggies.

6. Yucky Toothbrush Prank
