A list of laundry products recall were published by the government of Canada due to a chemical hazard that was found.

Health Canada released a consumer product recall for certain baby laundry products Friday, instructing the public to immediately stop using certain laundry detergents and fabric conditioners sold in the country, Narcity reported.

The recall involves "The Laundress" brand fabric conditioners. It is reported that the products of this particular company may have a chemical impurity called ethylene oxide, which is a carcinogen, causing "adverse health effects if there is significant and direct long-term exposure."

The following are some of the products recalled:

  2. Baby Detergent and Fabric Conditioner

  3. Baby Detergent and Fabric Fresh Duo

  4. Baby Fabric Fresh

  5. Darks Detergent and Fabric Conditioner

  6. Dish Detergent Flex Pack with 16 oz Glass Pump

  7. Everyday Laundry Kit

  8. Fabric Fresh Baby

  9. Isle Signature Detergent and Fabric Fresh

  10. Signature Detergent and Fabric Conditioner Duo

"All recalled products have 'The Laundress - New York' printed at the top of the label. The recalled products were sold individually, in kits or as part of a bundle," Health Canada stated, also noting that all lot codes are being retracted.

As of March 28, an estimated 13,000 product units have already been sold in Canada. Fortunately, no incidents or injuries have been reported.

The complete list of products withdrawn from the market can be found in an announcement that the brand "The Laundress" published.

Consumers who have bought the products can go to the company's website and request for reimbursement.

"After requesting a refund, consumers should dispose of the product by closing the bottle tightly and placing it in household trash. Do not empty the product prior to disposal," the company's management instructed.

Second time for the company's products to be recalled

This is already the second time the company has recalled their products. A previous recall was announced last December 1, 2022, still involving laundry detergent, fabric conditioner and household cleaning products.

According to the Government of Canada, the issue the last time was the possible presence of "Burkholderia cepacia complex, Klebsiella aerogenes and multiple different species of pseudomonas."

It was further stated that individuals with "weakened immune systems, external medical devices, and underlying lung conditions" face a high risk of serious infection when exposed to the said bacteria, which can enter the body through the eyes or break in the skin, or if inhaled. Medical treatment can be possible.

Eleven consumers were found to have been sick with pseudomonas infection. The company is continually investigating if their infections are in any way connected to the withdrawn products.

"We deeply apologize for this situation and thank you for your patience. We look forward to reintroducing The Laundress with products that reaffirm our commitment to the highest standards of consumer safety and quality," the company expressed.
