The eleven-year-old New Jersey student allegedly informed the school about being bullied numerous times before she died in an apparent suicide incident, her mother says.
Felicia LoAlbo-Melendez was found by another student inside a bathroom stall at F.W. Holbein School in Mount Holly, New Jersey last February 6, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
School officials immediately responded and rushed the student to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was pronounced dead in the manner of complications related to attempted suicide after two days, confirmed by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office, as reported by People.
New Jersey Student Complained to School Prior to Suicide
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office reviewed the school's surveillance cameras in line with the investigation and discovered that she was alone in the bathroom when the incident happened.
Felicia's grieving mother expressed that her daughter's suicidal death was due to a consistent bullying she has experienced in alcohol.
Elaina LoAlbo stated that her late daughter emailed school officials to inform them about being bullied days before her death. She even accused the school of "breaking the laws" when allegedly they did nothing about her complaints.
"She herself had written numerous emails to the administration detailing the events, yet no one was ever questioned. They have swept under the rug, the bullying that she and so many other kids in that school have encountered and now they're doing the same with this investigation," Elaina heartbreakingly told NJ.com.
In one email Felicia sent to the school, she suggested to begin a "trauma club" to be a safe place for students to discuss trauma and triggers.
Mom of Bullied Victim Disappointed by the School
Elaina also revealed that her daughter is only one of the many victims of bullying in their school that is suffering in silence.
The victim's mother took to Facebook and posted an emotional post on Friday, stating that her daughter's email will not remain unheard and declaring that now is the time for parents and children's voices to be heard.
She announced that the Burlington County Sheriff's Department is set to close her daughter's case "without completing an investigation and questioning key people or showing me, the mother, any proof of these allegations."
"Just like the school, I feel like they are trying to sweep it under the rug," Elaina expressed.
She further stressed how the school failed her as a parent of one of their students.
"We need to do better; we need to help these children that come to us begging for help. It's time to speak up. The school administration didn't listen the first 50 times. Maybe they are ready to hear us now. This bullying needs to stop. There need to be consequences for their actions," the mother of three declared.
Felicia's suicidal death happened while she was still mourning the death of her father, New Jersey Transit Police Detective Alexis Melendez. The latter died only two weeks before her.
