Marvel has just released an update regarding its line up of films and once again, "Captain Marvel" has been pushed back.
Releasing a Phase 3 press release update shared via the official Marvel website, the company writes, "Now that Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially reached its conclusion with the release of Marvel's 'Ant-Man,' we have new details on what to expect in Phase 3!"
The film, originally pegged to be titled, "Ms. Marvel" now called "Captain Marvel" has been moved from an original release date of July 2018 to November 2018 following the decision to release a stand-alone "Spider-Man" reboot for 2017. Now, fans of the female superhero will have to wait even longer as the theatrical release is now slated for March 8, 2019 along with "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2" scheduled to hit the cinema during the same month.
"Captain Marvel" News and Updates
According to Collider, screenwriter Meg LeFauve -- set to co-write the script of "Captain Marvel" with "Guardians Of The Galaxy" writer Nicole Perlman -- has made a comment on the progress of the film.
Confirming that production has yet to begin, she discussed why she was interested in working on the project and her opinion on the appeal of the superhero character:
"We have not started yet. We just got the phone call to come over to Marvel. But for me personally, the wonderful thing about her and the challenge of her is going to be that she's a female superhero. And that is awesome because she's so powerful, and how hard is that going to be because she's so powerful? We don't want the Superman curse. 'What's her vulnerability?' is what we have to figure out."
For those who are unaware, the character of Captain Marvel carries the real name Carol Danvers and her powers include "flight, enhanced strength, durability and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts from her hands." Her abilities include a honed skill of piloting as well as hand-to-hand combat. Throughout her appearance in the comic series, she has been affiliated with the Avengers, Queen's Vengeance and the Starjammers.
Other updates shared by Marvel include the title of "Ant-Man" sequel now called "Ant-Man and the Wasp", advance release of "Black Panther" (February 16, 2018) and three new claimed slots for untitled Marvel films on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020 and November 6, 2020.
"Captain Marvel" will open in theaters March 8, 2019.
