The latest episode of "The Flash" has Barry finally meeting Patty Spivot, a new love interest. The actor playing the superhero, Grant Gustin, speaks up about what this new romance is like.
Talking with People, Gustin revealed that the relationship between Barry and Patty will happen a lot sooner into the season instead of later. "She's really the only character right now with whom Barry completely forgets about his worries, forgets about everything they're doing with Team Flash and just has a lot of fun," the actor said.
Patty Spivot, played by Shantel VanSanten, also appears on the comic books, where she's a blood expert, according to Bustle. But in the TV show, Patty is a cop who is pretty determined to join the crime-fighting team of Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). According to show writer Todd Holding via Zap2it, Patty is a "very strong, hardcore, female cop who has this clear purpose."
"We sort of wanted to have her feel part of the show and the universe that we've set up. Someone that was in this for the right reasons - and someone that feels part of the metahumans task force and hold her own," Holding added.
The Barry-Patty relationship will get a lot of support from Iris, Barry's old love. "Iris becomes aware of Patty and I think you'll find that she's very supportive of that relationship," said Candice Patton, who plays the character, via Variety. "[Iris] got a lot on her plate, and I think relationships for her are not at the forefront."
Meanwhile, it's not just Barry who is going to have a new love interest this season as it's hinted that STAR Labs' new speedster Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) showed instant connection towards Caitlin, (Danielle Panabaker). "There's an instant comfort level. That wonderful thing you don't get with too many people in life that I believe that these two experience," Holding told Zap2it.
"I think they're going to explore that a little bit. Jay and Caitlin are part of this bigger team at Star Labs and there's an interaction they are going to have that I think we're going to explore a little bit."
Fans will recall that Caitlin's fiancé, Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) sacrificed his life to save Central City, so Caitlin can pretty much open her heart again.
"The Flash" Season 2 airs every Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
