A New York twin brother from Herricks High School surprisingly got awards for valedictorian and salutatorian!
The 17-year-old fraternal twins, Devon and Dylan Lee, were together in orchestra class when it was announced that they had both claimed the highest honors in their class as valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2024 at Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, New York.
New York Twin Brothers hailed as Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Herricks Principal Joan Keegan stated that they purposely made the announcement during class since a lot of their peers who made it on the honor roll and top students are also in the same class as them.
Keegan stated that it was a wonderful opportunity to share the joy with one another and added that the Lee twins are adored by their classmates and teachers.
Dylan stated that he was a little bit surprised with the valedictorian and salutatorian awards since their school is more competitive and admitted that he was not sure if he would receive recognition or not.
Following closely in the footsteps of their older sister, Jeylin Lee, Herricks High's valedictorian of 2023, the brothers have excelled in an environment known for its academic rigor.
Despite being in a school brimming with top-tier students, the brothers managed to stand out, with their grade point averages a mere 0.006 points apart.
Devon, with a GPA of 4.224, slightly outdid Dylan, who achieved a 4.218 GPA. Their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication in a competitive setting.
Dylan also added that people have perceived them to be very competitive with each other since they are twins in the same grade and taking the same classes.
On the contrary, the Lee twins stated that it is actually the opposite; they are very supportive of each other in ways like studying together, keeping each other accountable, and helping with homework.
He added that he still believes academics, no matter how important they are in life, should not be everything in life, and that there is more to life than grades.
New and Separate Chapters in College
The New York twin brothers are not just focusing on academics; both are also involved in extracurricular activities that make their high school journey particularly noteworthy. Both twins love music, running, and volleyball.
As they prepare to part ways for college, with Devon heading to Cornell and Dylan heading to Yale, the brothers face a significant change.
For the first time, they will be charting their paths independently, stepping out of a shared life that has been filled with joint experiences. This new phase, while daunting, is also filled with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead.
Principal Joan Keegan of Herricks High School has no doubts about their bright futures. She believes the twins' joyful and compassionate nature, nurtured by their family and experiences at school, will be the cornerstone of their success in their individual endeavors.
It'll be a big departure for the brothers, who, in about eight months, will no longer see each other every single day.
However, both stated that they are very excited to see what new opportunities and experiences they are going to have in college.
