The FSA deputy stated that the mispacked product bears ingredients not listed on the label, making it a possible health risk for those with certain dietary limitations.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced that some of the packs were not packed with Potato Croquettes, causing a peril to individuals with allergies or intolerances to milk, wheat (gluten), or those with coeliac disease.

Asda's Urgent Recall of Frozen Hash Browns

As a preventive measure, Asda is recalling the affected product and advising customers to return it to the store of purchase for a full return of payment.

The FSA also mentioned that Asda has provided point-of-sale notices to let the customers know about the recollecting and is contacting relevant allergy support organizations to spread awareness among their members.

The FSA emphasizes that allergy alerts are issued when there is a potential risk to consumers due to incorrect or missing allergy labeling or any other allergy-related concerns.

In such cases, affected products may be withdrawn or recalled to ensure consumer safety.

Due to a packaging error, potato croquettes, including additional allergens, have been mistakenly placed in packs of Asda's own brand frozen 'Crispy Hash Browns.'

As an outcome of this mix-up, the supermarket chain Asda has desperately initiated a recall for this popular breakfast potato product, expressing concerns about the presence of "undeclared allergens."

The affected packets being recollected are 800g in size, with an expiry date of June 30, 2025.

As a preventive measure, those with dairy, wheat, or gluten intolerances, or individuals with coeliac disease, are strongly advised not to eat up the product and to give back the hash brown packets to the store.

Containers of Chilled Crispy Hash Browns have been found to hold a Potato Croquettes, which consist of milk and wheat (gluten), not listed on the product label.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has expressed that these circumstances present a possible health risk for each one with allergies or intolerances to milk, wheat or gluten, and coeliac disease.

The advice is clear: if you fall into any of these categories, abstain from eating up the product.

The preventive awareness pertains to 800g packets marked with a best by date of June 30, 2025, and a barcode number of 5052449493030.

Only this certain batch is affected, and customers facing possible health risks are encouraged to give back the product to the nearest store, where a full return of pay will be given, regardless of whether the receipt is still available.

If consumers have bought the specified product and have allergies or intolerances to the mentioned ingredients, the FSA recommends not eating it and giving it back to the store for a refund.

History of Asda

Asda Stores Limited, commonly well known as Asda and often stylized as ASDA, is a British supermarket chain with its headquarters at Leeds in England.

Originally incorporated as Associated Dairies and Farm Stores in 1949, the company went through growth into Southern England in the 1970s and 1980s.

During this period, it acquired various businesses, including Allied Carpets, 61 large Gateway Supermarkets, and others such as MFI Group. In the 1990s, Asda dispossessed these acquisitions to focus on its core supermarket operations.

It was publicly recorded on the London Stock Exchange until 1999 when it was obtained by Walmart for £6.7 billion.

Asda held the position of the second-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2014 in terms of market share, after which it moved to the third position.
