Marvel's Cinematic Universe gets even better as it enters phase three. Last year, in a special media event, Marvel Studios' head Kevin Feige confirmed the third installment of the "Thor" series titled "Thor: Ragnarok," per Screen Rant. Now, Birth Movies Death (BMD) reports that the fictional superhero will come back with a "dark" storyline as it approaches "the end of things."
Marvel hired Taika Waititi to occupy the director seat for "Thor: Ragnarok," but many are speculating how would someone with a comedy background help such a serious script? According to BMD, the studio is hoping that Waititi will tone down and put a lighter spin on Thor's story. Waititi's involvement in the proceedings says a lot about the magnitude of grimness that writer Christopher Yost has put into the script.
The report further states that Waititi will make the story more digestible and meet Marvel fans' expectations while still maintaining Yost's "apocalyptic vibe." But how would they do such feat?
One way is through humor. An earlier report from Screen Rant says that Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner or The Hulk, will be reinstated to the big screen before the next "Avengers" installment, and there's a possibility that he might appear in "Thor: Ragnarok." Birth Movies Death reveals that the Hulk will not only grace the big screen for just a short time, but he will play a major role in the story. The two will have a "cosmic adventure,” and the humor between them might add a comedic flair to the script.
During this "cosmic journey," a separate Screen Rant report reveals that Thor and the Hulk will most likely meet a new Asgardian superhero, Valkyrie, who was first seen in The Avengers comics as Brunnhilde. There is still no confirmation on how Valkyrie, whose arch enemy is the Norse goddess The Enchantress, will be incorporated in "Thor: Ragnarok."
However, BMD speculates that she could be introduced together with the Valkyries, a group of goddesses who bring "worthy fallen warriors from the battlefield to bring them to Valhalla," where they enjoy a feast and prepare for the end of the universe or Ragnarok, per Screen Rant.
Regarding the story's location, according to a scoop from JoBlo, James Gunn has hinted that the film is set on a "distant planet" and not on Earth or Asgard. However, Gunn was quick to throw out speculations that it may be in Planet Hulk, saying that it's “complete bulls**t." Screen Rant speculates that Muspelheim is a possible contender as it is where Surtur and the Fire Demons dwell.
"Thor: Ragnarok" stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Ruffalo and Jaimie Alexander. It is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
