Lau faces charges including three counts of felony vehicular crime, felony reckless driving causing bodily injury, and other traffic violations, according to a statement from the San Francisco Police Department.
Authorities declared that Lau had not yet made a court presence, and it was uncertain if she had legal representation. She faces charges containing three counts of felony vehicular crime, felony reckless driving causing bodily injury, and other traffic violations, as per the San Francisco Police Department.
The collision, involving a Mercedes SUV crashing into a bus shelter in the West Portal neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, claimed the lives of a man and a child at the scene.
Three people, including Lau, were transferred to hospitals. Gloomily, a female among the injured succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital, while the baby remains hospitalized with crucial injuries.
A temporary memorial has been growing at the crash site, with dwellers leaving flowers. Advocacy group Walk San Francisco arranged a vigil expected for Monday evening to honor the casualties at the spot of the tragedy.
According to investigators, Lau was speeding and driving in the wrong direction on Ulloa Street, traveling east in the westbound lane, before crashing into the bus stop in front of the West Portal Library.
Simmone Fichtner, who lives near Lau, remarked, "I frequently see Mary gardening in front of her house." Fichtner expressed disbelief at the news, describing Lau as consistently calm, friendly, and attentive to her grandchildren. "It's incredibly unexpected, and I'm deeply sorry," Fichtner added.
Friends of the deceased couple remembered them as lively individuals. They recounted that on Saturday, the family had planned to visit the zoo and had chosen to take the bus.
Woman Arrested After 5 Dies in High-Speed Crash
A collision in Los Angeles County led to the deaths of five people, including a pregnant female, and resulted in the arrest of Nicole Lorraine Linton, 37, who faces charges of vehicular crime with gross negligence.
The occurrence happened when Linton, driving a Mercedes-Benz at high speed, ran a red light in Windsor Hills. Multiple individuals were ejected from vehicles, and two cars caught fire.
Asherey Ryan, the pregnant victim, along with her 11-month-old son, tragically lost their lives. Ryan's family was anticipating the birth of a baby boy named Armani.
Security footage indicated Linton's car didn't slow down before the collision. The severity of the crash made victim identification challenging, with the deaths of two women and a man confirmed by the coroner's office.
