North Carolina University Institutes Lockdown
Law enforcement responded to the Lawson Street Residence Complex at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, as per a university news release from Durham. The campus was placed under lockdown, with a warning issued to individuals in the vicinity regarding an "armed and dangerous person."
Durham Police Department officers closed off two blocks of Lawson Street for roughly two hours during the investigation. Meanwhile, Durham EMS, responding to an unrelated medical call nearby, arrived at the complex to assist a person who had been shot at least once, according to the university. The wounded student was transferred to Duke University Hospital.
The casualty of the gunfire has been identified as an NCCU student, presently hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as of Wednesday afternoon, declared university spokesperson Stephen W. Fusi.
NCCU Police Chief Damon Williams reported at a press conference that the gunfire is being treated as a criminal investigation, although no details regarding possible suspects have been given.
Neither the Durham police nor the university has revealed any data about probable suspects or the identity of the gunshot casualty. In response to the circumstances, the university has declared plans to offer counseling support for affected students.
Similar Incident Involving a Shooting at Dormitory
According to law enforcement, the person arrested for the passing of two individuals at a dormitory at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs was the roommate of one of the casualties.
Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez confirmed on Tuesday morning that the suspect, 25-year-old Nicholas Jordan from Detroit, shared living quarters with victim Samuel Knopp, a senior at the university.
Knopp, aged 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, aged 26 and not affiliated with the university, were found deceased on Friday morning at the university's Crestone House residence.
Following the discovery, the campus was placed on lockdown for an hour until authorities determined that there was no active shooter, and the incident was treated as a homicide investigation.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jordan, also a student at the university, late Friday on two counts of first-degree murder. He was located in a vehicle on Monday morning in Colorado Springs and taken into custody, according to police statements on social media.
During the search, Vasquez expressed concerns that Jordan may have attempted to flee the area, stating that search teams were continuously scouring as his whereabouts were uncertain. Authorities stated on Monday that their investigation indicated the shooting was a targeted incident involving individuals known to each other and was not a random attack on the university or its students.
Jordan, set to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon, is currently held on a $1 million bond, according to online records.
Knopp, originally from Parker, approximately 60 miles north of the campus, was studying music, as per university officials. Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet praised him as a highly-skilled guitarist in a statement to the campus community.
Senior Haden Garcia Gillespie, Knopp's best friend, echoed this sentiment, highlighting Knopp's extraordinary talent.
Montgomery, from Pueblo, about 45 miles south of the campus, had previously studied culinary arts at Pueblo Community College for a semester.
Pueblo Community College conveyed condolences and acknowledged the prevalence of such circumstances in an educational environment. In response to the misfortune, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs closed over the weekend, with classes canceled on Monday to allow students time for healing.
