A Target theft is now leaving the San Francisco woman, Aziza Graves, 43, facing 3 years of prison for shoplifting over $60,000 worth of merchandise.
The conviction, announced by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, marks the culmination of a series of thefts that totaled over $60,000 in stolen merchandise.
Aziza Graves was found guilty of one felony count of grand theft and 52 misdemeanor counts of petty theft, as announced by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
San Francisco Target Store Shoplifting Spree
A San Francisco resident, Aziza Graves, was convicted on Friday for theft exceeding $60,000 from a local Target store. This conviction, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, entails pretending to pay at self-checkout machines. Graves, 43, now faces a potential three-year prison term for petty theft.
The district attorney's office stated that Graves allegedly committed these thefts at a single Target store within the city's Stonestown Galleria numerous times between October 3, 2020 and November 16, 2021. Her method reportedly involved placing items at the self-checkout, scanning them, and inserting a minimal payment before exiting.
The stolen goods' cumulative value surpassed $60,000, as per authorities. The store in question is situated in a shopping complex southwest of San Francisco, near the San Francisco Zoo and San Francisco State University.
Prosecutors disclosed that Graves targeted this particular Target outlet 120 times over a slightly longer than a year-long period.
Conrad Del Rosario, the Assistant District Attorney handling the case, noted the extensive evidence presented over several weeks.
Jurors ultimately found Graves guilty of repeatedly stealing merchandise valued at over $60,000. Subsequently, she was observed selling these stolen items at UN Plaza within the city, as indicated in the prosecution's release.
Woman Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Shoplifting Spree, Petty Theft
According to official statements, Aziza Graves faced an additional conviction for misdemeanor petty theft involving a San Francisco Abercrombie and Fitch store.
San Francisco Police Department Chief Bill Scott characterized her as a "particularly brazen and prolific retail theft offender."
Initially charged with eight felony grand theft counts and 120 misdemeanor petty theft counts, Graves ultimately received a conviction on one felony grand theft count and 53 misdemeanor petty theft counts. Notably, one of these petty theft counts was related to the Abercrombie & Fitch incident, while the remainder occurred at Target.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins emphasized the impact of such repeated and audacious thefts on retailers and the public.
"Individuals like Aziza Graves engage in egregious thefts that disrupt retail operations and affect the community," Jenkins stated, highlighting the need for accountability and deterrence.
Graves is currently not detained and is awaiting sentencing later this month. Prosecutors have indicated that she faces a sentence exceeding three years in prison.
