The FDA issues a Pedigree dog food recall for possible contamination that can possibly affect the health of pets.

Mars Petcare, the parent company of Pedigree, has voluntarily recalled hundreds of bags of dog food, potentially affecting pets in four states.

The recall involves 315 bags of Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food, each weighing 44 pounds.

The company initiated the recall due to the possible presence of loose metal pieces in the bags. These recalled products were distributed to 176 Walmart stores across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas.

Mars Petcare has collaborated with Walmart stores in the affected regions to ensure the removal of the products from sale and inventory.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, there have been no reports of pet injuries or illnesses related to the potentially impacted product since the voluntary recall was initiated.

Consumers who have bought 44-pound bags of Pedigree dog food with a best-by date of March 4, 2025, and lot code 410B2TXT02 are advised to dispose of the bag entirely. This information can be located on the bag's bottom seal.

To confirm if the Walmart store where the bag was purchased is included in the list provided by Mars Petcare US, individuals can visit the designated link.

Contaminants such as metal and plastic often prompt food recalls. Earlier this month, the Department of Agriculture issued a public health alert over concerns that raw pork chorizo products could be contaminated with hard plastic and metal.

Additionally, H-E-B recently recalled its Creamy Creations ice cream due to potential metal fragments in the cups.

The FDA cautioned about potential health risks due to loose metal pieces in the bags, urging pet owners to be vigilant if they suspect their pets have consumed the affected food.

So far, there have been no reports of pets suffering injuries or illnesses related to this issue. The FDA stated, "If you believe your pet has consumed the affected product, you should monitor for unusual behavior and contact a veterinarian in the event of any concerns."
