A Lake Anna drowning incident resulted in the death of a father as he attempted to rescue his teenage son struggling in the waters.

A father and son died in a drowning incident in Virginia after a failed rescue attempt over Memorial Day weekend. Several people who were at the location also attempted to help the father and rescuers tried to locate them in the water but were unsuccessful.

In Louisa County, Virginia, police authorities have confirmed that both male are only visiting Lake Anna and are from out of state.

Father and Son Drown in Lake Anna, Virginia

The Lake Anna drowning incident happened at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, May 25, 2024.

According to a statement from the Louisa County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), the officers responded to a distress call regarding a drowning child in the area of Carrs Bridge Road in Lake Anna, which is 60 miles northwest of Richmond.

It was later confirmed by the LCSO that the father is a 42-year-old man, and his son is a 14-year-old male.

According to the official statements released by the police, they were informed that the father of the child attempted to locate his son in the water. However, upon searching and attempting to go to his son, the father was witnessed struggling in the lake.

According to the police, "it was reported that witnesses observed the father struggling, just before losing sight of him as well. Several people went into the water in an attempt to locate them but were unsuccessful."

Ongoing Investigation of the Father and Son Drowning

After receiving the report, multiple agencies, including Louisa County Sheriff's Office Marine Units, Mineral Volunteer Fire, the Department of Wildlife Resources, Lake Anna Volunteer Rescue, and Spotsylvania County Fire & EMS Dive Team, collaborated to recover the bodies of a 42-year-old father and his 14-year-old son who drowned at the scene.

With that, both drowning victims were then transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond for a detailed examination.

The authorities have withheld the identities of the victims but they were confirmed to be from out of state. For now, names are being withheld pending notification of their next of kin. They also have not confirmed where they are from.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office has stated that no suspicion of foul play exists in connection with this tragic incident. Nevertheless, the investigation remains active and ongoing.
