Some Fell Ill from Consuming Microdosing Chocolate Bars

The affected people encountered serious manifestations such as seizures, central nervous system depression, agitation, abnormal heart rates, blood pressure fluctuations, nausea, and vomiting.

Six of the eight casualties needed hospitalization after eating the chocolate, which is distributed nationwide. The FDA noted that the precise list of retailers selling these chocolate bars is not fully known.

Efforts are ongoing to determine the cause of the illnesses. According to the company's website, the chocolate bars contain a "primo proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms."

The FDA has suggested against eating any flavors of the Diamond Shruumz microdosing chocolate bars, emphasizing that the product is marketed as candy and may fascinate children and teenagers.

In 2022, the FDA defined nootropics as products often marketed as "smart drugs" and "cognitive enhancers" without authorization.

The agency suggested that parents and caregivers discuss the advisory with their children and guarantee that young people refrain from eating these chocolate bars.

The latest reported illness happened on June 3. Two casualties were from Indiana, one from Nevada, one from Pennsylvania, and four from Arizona. Some casualties needed intubation, according to the Banner Poison and Drug Information Center in Arizona.

Steve Dudley, director of the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, stated that despite the products claiming to contain only natural ingredients and no scheduled drugs, there is evidently a toxic element causing these severe reactions.

He noted instances of individuals seizing, losing consciousness, and needing intubation after consuming the chocolate bars.
