He's the Golden (Corral) boy! A woman who claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy delivered a healthy baby in a Golden Corral restroom and named her son after the buffet restaurant.
Woman Unaware of Her Pregnancy Delivers in Restaurant Restroom
Tayvia Woodfork reported experiencing stomach pains while dining at a chain restaurant in North Little Rock on May 4. Shortly after, she gave birth to Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork in the Golden Corral women's restroom. "I'm still in shock," Woodfork stated.
Upon arriving at the restaurant with her mother, Tameka, and the rest of their family, Woodfork went straight to the bathroom, believing she only had cramps.
"I didn't even make it to the table," she remembered. However, what she thought were cramps turned out to be contractions, and she swiftly gave birth to a baby boy.
"My sister looked in the toilet and said, 'I've never seen anything like it. It's a baby!'" Woodfork recalled.
Woodfork had a rare cryptic pregnancy, a condition where a person is unaware of their pregnancy until late in the term or even until labor starts. Despite the dramatic circumstances of his birth, baby Tamaar was perfectly healthy, his family reported.
"The baby weighed six pounds. According to Tameka Woodfork, his grandmother, she was aware of the fact that he had already been born.
Baby Tamaar's arrival was a surprise not only to Woodfork but to everyone at the Golden Corral restaurant. Staff and fellow diners applauded Woodfork as she emerged from the bathroom on a stretcher, according to her family.
Back in Mississippi, Tamaar's family shared that "Everyone wants to meet the Golden Corral baby."
The restaurant chain also acknowledged the event, celebrating Tamaar's surprise birth in a Facebook post, noting that he now holds the record as the youngest Golden Corral fan.
"IT'S A BOY! "Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork is here and excited to welcome her to Golden Corral," the restaurant said.
"Hello, Tamaar from the Golden Corral family! You're now the newest member of the Golden Corral fan club! Rest assured, we'll give Golden Corral gift cards to your mom as she cares for you."
What Is Cryptic Pregnancy?
Individuals with a cryptic pregnancy are often unaware they are pregnant until the final weeks or at birth. They typically do not exhibit common symptoms such as nausea, missed periods, or abdominal swelling. Some may even deny being pregnant.
Research is limited, but studies suggest cryptic pregnancies are more common than previously thought. A 2011 review found rates at 20 weeks ranging from 1 in 475 to 1 in 516, with about 1 in 2,500 continuing to labor without prior awareness.
Doctors classify cryptic pregnancies into three types:
- Affective: Recognizing pregnancy but not making arrangements for it.
- Psychotic: Attributing pregnancy symptoms to delusions, often due to mental illness.
- Pervasive: Lacking awareness of pregnancy and avoiding medical attention.
