Suntegrity recalls their Skin Sunscreen Foundation due to the mold concerns in their products.
Suntegrity Skincare has initiated this voluntary recall of several lots of its Impeccable Skin Sunscreen Foundation after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected a potentially harmful mold in some tubes in multiple shades.
The recall was announced on June 12, prompting an immediate halt in the use and distribution of the affected products.
Contamination of Mold in Sunscreen
The FDA's recall announcement highlighted the discovery of a "higher than acceptable microbiological mold count" in certain tubes of Lot 115BU.
The contaminant, Aspergillus sydowii, poses significant health risks, including potential eye infections, allergic skin reactions, and primary fungal skin infections, particularly if applied to sunburned skin or open wounds.
According to the FDA, the mold was detected post-release and over time during recent tests. Despite only Lot 115BU being contaminated, Suntegrity chose to recall eight additional lots as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, no adverse event reports have been received to date.
The Suntegrity recalled products were reported to have been sold both in stores nationwide and online and were packed in 2-ounce orange tubes.
