The husband of a bride killed in a beach road accident on their wedding night in South Carolina last year will get almost a million dollars in compensation linked to the crash, supposedly caused by a drunk driver.

Husband of Bride Killed on Wedding Night to Receive Nearly $1M Settlement

Aric Hutchinson will get about $863,300 from Folly Beach bars The Drop-In Bar & Deli, the Crab Shack, Snapper Jacks; Progressive auto insurance, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. This compensation was allowed by Charleston County Circuit Court Judge Roger Young earlier this week.

Hutchinson had charged the businesses after Jamie Lee Komoroski clashed a rented vehicle into a golf cart bringing him and his new bride, 34-year-old Samantha Miller, from their wedding reception on April 28, 2023.

The accident threw the golf cart 100 yards (91.44 meters), killing Miller, who was still wearing her wedding dress, at the scene. Hutchinson got through with a brain wound and numerous broken bones. Komoroski was reportedly driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone.

In the unjust decease accusation, Hutchinson claimed Komoroski had been drunk and overwhelmed through several bars around Folly Beach before driving her Toyota Camry with a blood-alcohol concentration more than three times the allowed restriction.

While the settlements total $1.3 million, the amount will be less after attorney and legal fees are subtracted.

Komoroski is out on bond as her case proceeds through the court system. In September, she was accused of felony DUI resulting in death, reckless homicide, and two counts of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury.

Aric Hutchinson Speaks About the Crash that Killed His Bride

The groom, Aric Hutchinson, whose bride was killed by a drunk driver on their wedding day in South Carolina remembered her last words: "She wanted the night to never end."

Hutchinson said that the crash, which also injured him, his brother-in-law, and his nephew, is hard to understand. Samantha Miller, 34, died in the April 28 golf cart crash in Folly Beach.

Hutchinson remembers her last words before a rented Toyota Camry driven by a 25-year-old woman crashed into their cart. He  recalled waking up in the hospital and learning of his wife's death.

The alleged driver, Jamie Lee Komoroski, is in jail facing charges including reckless vehicular homicide. Data shows she was driving 65 mph and briefly braked before hitting the cart.

Miller's obituary describes her as someone who "delivered peace, confidence, and laughter." Hutchinson called her "an amazing human being" whose life "should not have been taken." He described Sam as having a special glow, saying she was the type of person who illuminated a room the instant she entered.

According to a wrongful death lawsuit, Komoroski had been "bar hopping" before the crash. She refused a sobriety test at the scene, but her blood alcohol content was found to be 0.261, over three times the legal limit. Komoroski is out on bond after being charged on September 2023.
