Food overseers have recalled over 70 ice cream brands after tests displayed possible contagion with listeria.

FDA Orders Recall of Over 70 Ice Cream Brands

After this finding, Maryland-based Totally Cool stopped manufacturing and disbursing all its ice cream products. The affected items contain Friendly's ice cream cakes, Hershey's ice cream cones, and Jeni's sandwiches.

According to the FDA information, Listeria monocytogenes can be deadly to young kids, seniors, or people with depleted immune systems. The contaminated products were circulated nationwide and were available in stores and for direct delivery to homes.

Customers who have bought these items should return them for full reimbursement or dispose of them instantly. Totally Cool manufactures products for numerous brands and supermarkets, fulfilling both long-term contracts and short-term needs to meet demand growths.

For example, Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, one of the affected brands, had Totally Cool produce two of its popular flavors, Honey Graham and Key Lime.

Taharka stated on Facebook that although no listeria has been found in their ice cream or any ice cream produced at Totally Cool, the FDA is mandating a full recall as a precautionary measure. The company has now restarted manufacturing of these two flavors at its facility. As of June 24, there have been no recorded diseases connected to the recalled products.

Totally Cool is investigating the cause of the issue. Healthy people contaminated with germs might encounter manifestations such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

Pregnant females are specifically susceptible to listeria, as it can cause abortions and stillbirths. Manifestations commonly begin within 24 hours of utilization and can continue for days or weeks, depending on the seriousness of the contamination.

Listeria cases are intensely unusual in the US, with past surges often connected to unpasteurized milk and cheese, ice cream, raw vegetables, and fruits, as well as undercooked meats, according to the FDA.

The CDC reports that around 1,600 people contract listeriosis yearly, resulting in 260 deaths.
