Aldi recalls its chocolate chip muffins sold across the country after the company and the FDA has detected an undeclared walnut allergen that can pose serious risk to consumers.

The FDA stated on June 26 that FGF Brands Inc. has urgently recalled 11,830 cases of 4-count packs of Aldi's Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins.

Chocolate Chip Muffin Recall Across the Country, Product Information

The Aldi Bakeshop chocolate chip muffins that have been recalled affected with undeclared nuts were distributed in branches across the country and comes in transparent plastic packaging with a red label on top of it. These goods were made available to be purchased in 22 states, such as New York and Texas.

Every impacted package has the lot number NF1 142Y labeled and contains the UPC code 4099100048278 on the packaging. The product label lacked a warning about walnuts, prompting a consumer to initiate a recall.

After conducting an inquiry, the FDA pinpointed a malfunction in FGF Brands Inc.'s production and packaging operations as the main reason for the labeling mistake of the goods.

The production of the Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffin 4-pack has been put on hold for the time being until both the company and the FDA reach a collective resolution to assure consumers that the problem is completely solved.

Customer Advisory for Undeclared Walnut Allergen

The FDA recommends consumers who bought the product to return the items where they were bought and promised to receive a complete refund.

Individuals who have allergies or strong sensitivities to walnuts may face the danger of serious or potentially life-threatening allergic responses by consuming the item.

Luckily, no illnesses or negative health impacts have been reported to the company and the FDA concerning this chocolate chip recall. This is the first product recall in June for Aldi and the sixth one of this year.

Reser's Fine Foods Inc. recalled ALDI Macaroni Salad for not declaring a wheat allergen, while Schreiber Foods had to recall cream cheese products for possible salmonella contamination.

Official Statement From FGF Brands Inc.

Eating a chocolate chip muffin containing a hidden walnut can present a major health hazard to a large group of people, specifically for people allergic to walnuts.

Consuming even a tiny portion of walnut can lead to serious and immediate allergic responses, such as swelling, hives, trouble breathing, and going into an anaphylaxis shock, a life-threatening condition that needs prompt medical intervention.

For individuals with severe sensitivities, inadequate labeling on these muffins may lead to unexpected exposure, causing urgent medical emergencies and emphasizing the crucial need for precise ingredient disclosure in food items.

FGF Brands Inc. has confirmed its commitment to avoiding a repeat of these errors by stopping the production of the product until both parties agree that the problem has been resolved.

The company continues to encourage consumers who purchased the 4-pack of Aldi's Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffins to return them for a full refund.
