Grandfather Dies After Saving Grandchild From Water
On Saturday afternoon, the Barron County Sheriff's Department got a 911 call about the grandfather, who had entered the water below the Mikana Dam on Red Cedar Lake, more than 200 miles northwest of Milwaukee, to help a child in agony. Although the kids reached the shore securely, the grandfather was reported missing, according to a news release.
Local agencies searched the location but couldn't discover him, wrote Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. The grandfather's body was finally discovered by a dive team called in for the search.
An initial investigation revealed that the grandfather had taken his two grandchildren fishing and swimming. Both kids were wearing life jackets when one started to struggle. He entered the water to help and managed to bring them to a standing point where they could reach the shore.
The grandfather submerged and drowned under circumstances that are not yet clear.
The message conveyed our condolences to the family and gratitude to the first responders who acted quickly to help them.
Toddler's Father and Grandfather Drowns in Pool
The father and grandfather of a two-year-old girl drowned after jumping into a hotel swimming pool in an effort to rescue her. Dharmvir Singh, 38, and Gurjinder Singh, 65, passed away at the Surfers Paradise resort in Australia's Gold Coast on Sunday evening.
The two men from Clyde North, Victoria, were believed to be the father and grandfather of the toddler who fell into a deeper part of the pool while playing by the side. They immediately jumped in to rescue her but encountered difficulties themselves.
Other visitors rescued the family from the water and administered CPR to the two men until paramedics arrived shortly before 7 p.m. to take over. Despite their best attempts, Dharmvir and Gurjinder were pronounced dead at the scene due to cardiac arrest.
MP Jason Wood, who identified the victims, offered his sympathies to the family, and mentioned that the toddler did not sustain any physical harm.
Mitch Ware, a senior operations supervisor with Queensland Ambulance Service, reported that a woman acquainted with the family was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition but emotionally distressed. He characterized the location as "extremely emotional," highlighting the challenges of losing two family members at once.
Ware released a caution to the community to be careful around water, especially during busy periods like school holidays. He suggested extra care for those who are not strong swimmers and young children when they are around, as drowning can happen swiftly.
Ware extended his solace on behalf of the Queensland Ambulance Service, recognizing the lasting influence of such circumstances on the family, witnesses, and first responders. He also mentioned uncertainty regarding the presence of safety flotation devices at the pool during the incident and confirmed that the Queensland Police Service is conducting an investigation.
