Teenage Boy Went Missing During a Sunset Cruise in the Bahamas
An 18-year-old boy from Louisiana, Cameron Robbins, disappeared during a sunset cruise in the Bahamas on Wednesday after reportedly jumping overboard on a dare, sparking a large-scale search.
Robbins, who recently graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from various local high schools, staying at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau.
On Wednesday evening, just four hours after their arrival, Robbins and his friends embarked on a sunset party cruise.
Witnesses reported that around 9:40 p.m., Robbins, acting on a dare, jumped into the ocean near Athol Island.
Robbins was spotted splashing in the dimly lit waters just a few feet away from the boat before disappearing. The boat, designed to look like a pirate ship, stayed there for several hours as crew members searched for him.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, helped by the US Coast Guard Southeast, has been administering an aerial search for the missing teen, but has not yet found any leads.
Kevin George, Director of University Lab School, voiced that Robbins had been a student at the school for his entire 13-year education and played as a pitcher on the baseball team. His younger sister is currently a junior there.
George described him as an athlete, a wonderful kid with a great smile and impressive hair. "Just one of the kids you're so proud of when they cross the stage."
The principal released a statement saying the University Lab School community was praying for Robbins' safe return.
George stated that he has been communicating with Cameron's family and currently, authorities are still actively searching for him in the Bahamas.
He emphasized the need for unity and support during such challenging times, acknowledging that words cannot fully convey the concern felt throughout the school community.
Robbins' parents arrived in the Bahamas on Thursday, where a prayer vigil was held at their son's resort. Simultaneously, a separate prayer circle took place outside his former school in Baton Rouge.
