A murder inspection has been started after the finding of a deceased baby girl in a bin.
Murder Investigation Launched After Newborn Found Dead in Camden Bin
The Metropolitan Police were alarmed around 2 PM on Monday, July 8, after a woman arrived at a hospital post-birth. Officers responded to a home on Taviton Street in Camden, where they discovered the tiny body of a newborn baby in an outside bin.
In the case, a 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of child destruction, while a 26-year-old man was captured on suspicion of killing, child neglect, and concealment of birth. Both people have since been discharged on bail pending further inspection.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is overseeing the investigation, stated that they have carried out a range of inquiries since the baby girl's body was found on Monday. Forensic examinations confirm that the baby was born full-term at a residential address, and her remains were later found in a refuse container outside the Taviton Street location.
He remarked that this was a profoundly tragic case for everyone involved and thanked the local community for their patience as the investigation proceeded. He urged anyone with information to come forward. A crime scene has been established outside the home in London.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur reassured the public that this incident is isolated and, while the baby's death is heartbreaking, there is no broader risk to the community. Officers will remain at the scene while investigations proceed, and residents with concerns can speak to the officers present or contact their neighborhood team.
Anyone with data about this situation who hasn't yet spoken with police is urged to call 101, referencing 4897/8JUL.
Teen Abandons Newborn in Hospital Trash Bin
A New Mexico teen, Alexee Trevizo, 19, is indicted of deserting her newborn in a hospital trash bin and is characterized by classmates as a "master manipulator" who knew she was pregnant and even named the baby Alex before his demise.
Trevizo denied her pregnancy, claiming her weight gain was due to birth control pills, but she confided in some friends about her situation. "She knew she was pregnant and kept it hidden from almost everyone," one former classmate said.
Trevizo, from Artesia, New Mexico, was charged with first-degree murder and evidence tampering after secretly giving birth in the bathroom of Artesia General Hospital.
Suspicion arose when she was admitted for back pain on January 27, 2023, and spent around 19 minutes locked in the bathroom. When staff entered, they found her covered in blood and discovered the deceased, full-term baby in the trash.
Friends observed warning signs as Trevizo started gaining weight in November 2022.
One friend mentioned that they were hesitant to ask, as they didn't want to assume someone was pregnant just because they appeared heavier. Even when her weight gain became obvious, she insisted she needed to diet and denied being pregnant, telling hospital staff she had regular periods, despite lab tests confirming otherwise.
Initially, hospital staff thought she was self-harming until a housekeeper found the baby in a separate bag at the bottom of the bin. When news broke about the dead newborn, several students at Artesia High School suspected it was Alexee's baby.
A few weeks later, Trevizo and her boyfriend Devyn Fierro returned to school, acting as if nothing was wrong, and they did not explain their absence. Trevizo attended prom with a smile months after the incident, and a photographer remarked that there was no indication anything was wrong.
Her trial is set for October 2, 2023. A friend remarked, "Alexee is a narcissist. She named the baby boy Alex Fierro. If convicted, she deserves serious prison time for her actions and will have to answer to God for what she did to her son."
