Today, Governor Greg Abbott unveiled that the HHSC in Texas has been granted federal consent to automatically issue replacement benefits to SNAP recipients in 18 counties affected by Hurricane Beryl.
Governor Abbott stated that SNAP benefits will be automatically replaced for food lost or destroyed during Hurricane Beryl, as affected communities still face flooding and power outages.
Texans qualified in 18 counties will receive their replacement benefits on their Lone Star Card without needing to take action for a valuable source of fresh, quality food for families in Texas.
He also expressed gratitude towards the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for collaborating with our federal allies to help Texans affected by Hurricane Beryl keep providing meals for their families.
Impact on Affected Texans
The Texas HHSC Deputy Executive Commissioner of Access and Eligibility Services, Molly Regan, stated that numerous constituents of Texas are facing severe challenges brought by the hurricane.
Regan acknowledges the ongoing power outage and property damages in multiple communities, saying that the replacement benefits will help Texas families to support them in rebuilding what they lost.
These advantages are intended to substitute food lost or damaged due to Hurricane Beryl.
People receiving SNAP benefits in these areas do not have to do anything to get their replacement benefits. The new benefits will be added to their Lone Star Card by July 16, amounting to a portion of their July benefit allocation.
