As New York State begins giving its people a financial boost, the Empire State is putting money back into the pockets of its residents. Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that checks totaling $350 million are already being mailed out by the state, with those sent in the first round being dispatched this Monday.
By month end, more than 10,000 checks will be dispatched daily for a period of two weeks to reach more than a million eligible families. WAER reports that each family will recieve $330 per child.
Relief for Back-to-School Expenses
These payments aim to relieve parents’ financial burden related to back-to-school shopping and other expenses of working parents.
"As New Yorkers get started with back-to-school shopping for their kids, we're putting some money back in their pockets," Hochul said in a statement, according to CBSNews. "My team is making sure these supplemental payments reach every eligible New Yorker - and I'm going to keep working every day to address the cost of living for working parents across our state."
Qualification Criteria
These checks will be issued automatically to any family who qualified for empire-state child credit in 2023 and file their tax returns within the stipulated time frame. This consists of couples earning less than or equal to $110,000, single mothers whose income does not exceed $75,000, and married couples filing separately, earning an annual total income of at most $55,000.The supplementary payment ranges from 25% up to 100% of the taxpayer’s prior year child tax credit.
Wide-ranging Financial Assistance
This endeavor is just one aspect of the larger project undertaken by the state government to provide financial aid for low- and middle-income households. Families should receive at least one hundred dollars from Empire State Child Credit by 2023 if they submit their state tax return on or before April 15, 2024, for further assistance like this.
For Central New York residents and others, this will be one of the most significant steps toward support for working families in the state.
