The lenient sentence of a former New York police officer who admitted to raping a 13-year-old girl sparks outrage and disbelief. He has been sentenced to a mere ten weekends in prison.

Shawn Jordan, 40, a former Rochester Police Department officer, pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree rape and forcible touching in March. Despite the severity of his crimes, Jordan will spend a total of only 20 days behind bars, sparking outrage and disbelief among the community.

According to investigators, Jordan raped the 13-year-old girl in 2022 while still serving on the police force. He also touched her inappropriately on a separate occasion. In a separate incident, Jordan exposed himself to a 16-year-old girl on a Facebook video chat while wearing his police uniform.

The plea agreement, widely criticized, allows Jordan to serve his sentence on weekends, allowing him to maintain his freedom during the week. He will also be placed on probation for ten years.

The sentence has sparked widespread outrage.

Ontario County District Attorney Jim Ritts said, "I'm disappointed, truly, that Shawn Jordan did not get the sentence that he deserved."

"Child sex offenders in prison and police officers in prison would compound those things and he knew exactly what he was facing if prison was in the works, " Ritts added.
