A Massachusetts couple recently gave birth to their daughter on the roadside at a busy highway in Cape Cod after they became stuck in traffic.
On August 8, Brewster couple Rebecca Mahota and her husband, Danya Mahota, were driving from their home to the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth to give birth to their daughter, Summer.
Nearly halfway through the 56-minute trip, Rebecca's contractions started coming on strong and fast. Her water also broke. With the traffic and half an hour left on the trip, the couple pulled over to the side of the road to give birth to their daughter.
"[My wife] starts screaming, and she's like, 'she's coming.' I'm driving obviously, I reach down between my wife's legs, and, sure enough, I feel the top of my daughter's head," Danya recalled in an interview with Cape Cod Times.
"She goes, 'we're gonna have to do this right here.' [I said,] 'Okay baby, well, let's just go slow and figure it out,'" Danya added.
Despite having no prior medical experience, Danya successfully helped his wife deliver their daughter.

Meeting the Ambulance
Following their roadside delivery, the couple wrapped Summer in a blanket and headed out to a Dunkin' in Sagamore Beach, where they met with paramedics and police officers who gave Danya a "sterilized exacto knife."
"I, like every Massachusetts father, cut my baby's umbilical cord in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot," he added.
Once the umbilical cord was cut, the paramedics brought Rebecca and Summer to the hospital via ambulance. She and their daughter stayed at the hospital for a few days for monitoring before they were released.
Finding Their Wedding Ring
After the couple and Summer arrived at the hospital, Danya noticed his wedding ring was missing. He later went back to the Cape Cod highway to search for the lost ring days later.
"Just as we were about to leave, I looked down, and by the grace of God, I found it right between my toes. I was scraping some grass away, and I just couldn't believe it," he told WCVB.
Summer, now over one-week-old, is doing great so as her mom, Rebecca.
