5 Ways To Save On Maternity Wear

If you're pregnant and on a budget, maternity wear is one of the luxuries that can definitely burn a hole in your pocket. Anyone who's pregnant, has been pregnant or knows someone currently pregnant is aware of the wardrobe challenges when you've got a growing belly.

While it's an exciting time, it's not practical to buy maternity wear you'll only get to wear for the better part of a year. To help soon-to-be moms along, here are some tips you can keep in mind that will allow you to save on pregnancy wear.

  1. Allowance on Space - When it comes to shopping, buy smart. Don't buy things that you can only wear during 1 or 2 trimesters, go for clothes that will accommodate your rounding figure all throughout the pregnancy. As an example, rather than a stretchy top, how about a boho/ gypsy top that you can wear from your first month all the way to your ninth and post-baby days.
  2. Bella Bands - If you'd like to be able to use regular clothes to the max even while pregnant, the Bella Band is your best friend. This tube of stretchy fabric can extend the use of your everyday, non-pregnancy clothes. The material allows you to wear your bottoms unzipped and offers a smooth contour and a snug fit for clothes that may still be too big.
  3. Planned Shopping - There's nothing more exciting that finding a fabulous article of clothing or an accessory at a bargain price. When shopping, avoid impulse buying, chances are if you wait a while, there will be a sale or you'll find something similar/ better as you go along. When you decide you need something, make a list, write out the budget and work from there, resist the urge to buy just because something is a "steal." Be smart and sensible.
  4. Borrow From Your Man - One of the hottest trends now are "boyfriend" clothing. Check your partner's closet for items that you can use for a few months, chances are you'll find jeans, shirts and button downs that will be looser and more comfortable. More than borrowing from your significant other, you can also borrow maternity clothes from a friend.
  5. Shop Online - If you really must have a certain piece of clothing, our suggestion is to try them on in person, get your size and shop for the item online. There are a number of online coupon sites that may have the item you want. If you put in the time, you could find yourself saving a ton of money for desirable pieces.
