Things aren't going well between Rosie O'Donnell and her adopted daughter Chelsea. In fact, their relationship is more strained than ever after Chelsea's recent tell-all-interview.
The 18-year-old adopted daughter of O'Donnell has taken her liberty to speak up for the first time about her experiences after being brought up under O'Donnell's custody. Chelsea's revelations were surprising and intriguing.
Chelsea told Daily Mail Online, that Rosie's public persona is "phony" and has a little to do with her life beyond close doors. She disclosed that Rosie is opposite from her bubbly personality when she's at home.
"I find her not genuine a lot of the time. When we'd go out, she was a completely different person in public than at home and I had a hard time with that. It's like two different people," Chelsea said of her mom.
Chelsea denied Rosie's public claims on her social media accounts and to the police that she run away, but revealed that O'Donnell kicked her out two weeks before her 18th birthday.
O'Donnell said at that time, Chelsea was mentally ill—a claim which was repeated by a police officer—but Chelsea does not agree with such claims. "I wouldn't say I'm mentally ill-I would say lots of people struggle with what I have," she said.
Chelsea is suggesting O'Donnell to get real. "I feel she should be her real self, who she really is. She has this public persona; she will put this big smile on her face and try to be funny. She would always go up to people and want to hold their babies in public. She had this happy, friendly side to her."
She stressed that at home O'Donell does not engage with them and just stayed at her room. If they do not do what Rosie wants, it becomes a big issue.
Chelsea also claims that although Rosie shared the details of her adoptions and birth parents, she discovered that some of the information feed to her was not true. She also resent Rosie for sending her away.
"I think being sent away has played a huge part in why our relationship is so hard," she said.
A source close to O'Donnell told US Weekly, that the 53-year-old former "View" co-host is "extremely depressed" adding that Chelsea won't talk to her. "It's very sad and Rosie doesn't know how to handle it," said the source.
Chelsea revealed that she got a text from Rosie, who called her "cash cow" Rosie is also texting her as if her boyfriend, Steve is keeping her and not letting her leave, but Chelsea said, "I'm really happy to be here, and happier than I've been in years."
O'Donnell's rep told US Weekly that the mother-and-daughter's situation is "heartbreaking on every level."
