After her action stint on "Mad Max: Fury Road," Charlize Theron seems to have impressed Sony Pictures that they have invited her to join "The Gray Man" and replace Brad Pitt's role, Deadline confirms.
According to the news outlet, "The Gray Man" is an adaptation of Mark Greaney's thriller series, which centers on a CIA-agent-turned-assassin, and her journey to protecting the kids she didn't know she had. Anthony and Joe Russo will be in charge in penning the script. The brothers are known for their directorial prowess in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and the soon-to-be-released "Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War" (Parts 1 and 2).
The Guardian notes that this is not the first time that Sony Pictures have done gender swapping in roles as this allowed women to play more roles outside gender stereotypes. For example, Sandra Bullock replaced George Clooney in "Our Brand Is Crisis," where the actress took on the role of a political campaign manager. Deadline adds that in the 2010 spy film, "Salt," Angelina Jolie's role was first intended to Tom Cruise until the latter gave way to Brad's wife.
"We're complex, crazy little creatures. We deserve to have stories that reflect that. And normalise that instead of it being a rarity. 'Oh she's intelligent? She wants to travel the world and do things for herself? Well, that's weird.' That's the way it's played out for so long," said Bullock during the Toronto Film Festival, as quoted by The Guardian.
However, fans will miss Theron, who plays Imperator Furiosa, in George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road." Theron's performance in the apocalyptic adventure film has led her to rig the role from Pitt. And even though her absence will be missed, Deadline states that Theron is entering a "rare territory" in "The Gray Man," which doesn't happen very often.
Meanwhile, as for Pitt, there are rumors that her wife has forbidden him to visit the set of "'The Lost City of Z" because of jealousy to Sienna Miller, Pulse reports. Citing a source from In Touch Magazine, the report said that Pitt asked his wife if he could visit the movie set in Northern Ireland, but he only received a resounding no.
According to the source, "Angie told him flat out, 'You're not going.' She's heard Brad bring up Sienna Miller's name almost every day since the film went into production in August... Sienna really gets under [Jolie's] skin."
The insider further revealed that Pitt allegedly argued to Jolie, saying that he must do his job as a producer, but "Angelina yelled that she didn't want him near Sienna."
However, Gossip Cop was quick to deny the rumor, saying that the incident "never happened."
