It seems that 20th Century Fox's “Gambit” movie is in a bit of a hustle right now, as the target release date is closing in, but still no director has been named.
According to IGN, director Rupert Wyatt, who was originally set to direct the movie, left the role due to “conflicts.”
"I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project," said Wyatt in a statement. "I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film."
The Hollywood Reporter reported a source that said a changing script, which caused the film's budget to be bigger than originally planned and extending the shoot, pushed Wyatt to leave the project.
Another source, THR adds, said the shooting schedule was affected by the Mardi Gras. Both of these made it hard for Wyatt and pushed him to quit.
Comic Book Movie, however, reports that Wyatt quit allegedly because of clashes. Apparently, the movie news outlet reports, Fox didn't want the direction that Wyatt had in mind for Gambit, thus the walk-out.
Now that the movie is nearing its 2016 release, rumor has it that Channing Tatum, who stars as Gambit and will also produce the film, is currently on the move to get a director.
According to The Wrap's Jeff Sneider, Tatum is currently courting director Doug Liman to work with him and direct the movie. If all is well, it would be good news since 2016 is quickly approaching.
Liman directed Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow, and The Bourne Identity.
Edge of Tomorrow received a 90 percent rating on RottenTomatoes.com, and critics described the movie as “Gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever.” If Liman accepts the film, this might be good news for Fox.
This new rumor about Liman seems to be good news for now, but fans will have to wait for the moment.
Gambit is an important movie for Fox, following after the fantastic flop by the “Fantastic Four” reboot.
Additionally, as Hugh Jackman is reportedly going to leave his post as Wolverine after one last sequel, and with “Apocalypse” ending the trilogy that started with “X-Men: First Class,” Gambit has to make it big
Hopefully, good news will spring up soon.
