After the shocking news on Lamar Odom last week, when he collapsed and was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel, it seems that the former NBA star is on his way to recovery. According to an exclusive report from E! Online, Odom has been discharged from the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas and will be going to Los Angeles, Calif., to receive further treatment.
A source from USA Today reports that Odom has "lifted spirits" in the Sunrise Hospital, where he has been given medical care since the incident on Tuesday. The source adds that the two-time world champion with the Los Angeles Lakers has been able to communicate with his doctors and loved ones. He has even got out of bed to rest in an armchair.
"There is more optimism and a different vibe. There are lifted spirits now," the insider revealed.
Los Angeles Times adds that over the weekend, Odom has been texting and "speaking sentences" after regaining consciousness on Friday from a four-day coma. E! Online also notes that the 35-year-old basketball player has also been on dialysis because of kidney failure but has since improved. He has passed a swallowing test and has signs of improvement in his neurological functions. He can now breathe without the help of an oxygen mask. He has also started to move his arms and legs, but still can't stand up on his own.
E! Online previously reported that Odom's transfer was pending until his condition remained stable. The team of physicians treating Odom was figuring out how the 6-foot-10 basketball star will be transported to Los Angeles as he was not allowed to be airlifted via a helicopter because of his towering height. However, the recent E! Online report said that Odom has finally been approved to be transferred through a helicopter.
Odom will reportedly leave Sunrise Hospital in the next day and a half, depending on his condition. After his transfer in Los Angeles, Odom will not be alone as his ex-wife, Khloe Kardashian, will stay by his side.
It was reported that the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star has not left Odom's side since his admission on Tuesday. A source says, "She goes everywhere with him. If Lamar leaves the room for testing, she follows." Lamar has also talked to Khloe, saying, "Hey, baby" and "Good morning."
According to a report from TMZ, Khloe has "vowed" to stay with Odom the entire way, even through rehab. Odom's doctors say that it will be "a long, hard road" for Odom as he will undergo months of physical, speech and other therapies.
