Electronic Sports League (ESL), considered to be among the top tournament organizers in the world, has finally disclosed the format and schedule for the first ever Valve-sponsored "Dota 2's" The Frankfurt Major, Inquirer.net reports.
The group stage is considered to be this year's "Dota 2's" premiere tournament, with the main stage to follow immediately on November 16. Here's the schedule:
November 13 - 14 Friday, 5:00 p.m. to Saturday, 6:00 a.m.
November 14 - 15 Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to Sunday, 6:00 a.m.
As for the format of the event, Inquirer.net stressed that the group stage of the Frankfurt Major will be done in GSL format. GEARNUKE reports that the whole format has been used by Major League Gaming in their "Dota 2" LAN finals including the MLG World Finals.
Sixteen teams will be participating in the tournament and they practiced hard for "Dota 2's" major title. These teams will be divided into four groups with four teams each. The teams will then play a double elimination bracket. The top two teams will go forward in the Winners Bracket at the Main Event.
On the other hand, the bottom two teams will have to play the Lower Bracket matches. The first match of every team will be the best-of-one in the Lower Bracket, while all matches will be the best of three.
The Grand Finals will consist of best of five series.
Among the sixteen teams besting for a portion of the $3million prize pool is Philippine's pride Mineski, who grabbed their tickets to Frankfurt by beating Southeast Asian rival Fnatic, 2-1, in the upper bracket final of the SEA Qualifier playoffs.
This is the first time Mineski has qualified for a Valve-sponsored tournament since the first edition of the International way back in 2011.
The group stage matches in The Frankfurt Major will be available for streaming and in-game client similar to The International, according to GEARNUKE. For those who wanted to be in attendance at the event, the first five days of The Frankfurt Major tournament at Feshalle in Frankfurt is admission free but the ticket for the tournament's grand finals is €50.
For those interested, tickets can be purchased from Eventbrite's official website.
