Fans could remember that in "Man of Steel," Superman defeated his enemy General Zod nearing the end of the movie. Now, audiences were caught off-guard upon the sight of Michael Shannon (who played Zod) in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer at the recent San Diego Comic Con.
His appearance signifies that Zod's role in the DC Cinematic Universe hasn't ended yet.
According to Cinema Blend, Shannon has said in recent weeks that he would be in the film, and also that he wouldn't. This would get fans confused, so looking at it again could help.
Two months ago, Vulture caught up with Shannon, who reportedly said that he got stuck in a port-o-potty because his hands had "flippers."
“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder] being like, 'Where’s Shannon?” said Shannon. “Where the [expletive] is he?' And the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!' “
Shannon is indeed returning in the film, but for what role? A recent interview with him asked if he's returning as a plain corpse, or if at least he would have some lines.
“Yeah, I say some stuff. But not a whole lot! I mean, I am dead. [Laughs] … I’m just like a ghost. It’s kind of like Russell Crowe in the first one. Jor-El. For some reason, these Kryptonian spirits, they linger. Even once you crack my neck, you can’t shut me up.”
Apparently, Zod will be back, but what remains unclear now is what he will actually do in the film.
According to CB, it could be possible that he will rack up the guilt on Superman, as fans would all remember that Zod was fighting for their home planet, Krypton. As Kal-El chose Earth, Zod probably won't be happy with it, and might do what he can to make Superman regret his decision.
Or it could be that as he had flippers, there will some sort of changes. Doomsday?
Additionally, rumor has it that Lex Luthor has grabbed hold of Zod's body, and might harvest his DNA to create a bigger threat to the whole human race. Fans will just have to see the movie for themselves.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" releases on March 25, 2016.
