Fossil, a company that is known for its vintage-style timepieces, announced recently that it is releasing its own line of smartwatches and bands.
Dubbed “Fossil Q,” these smart accessories are the company's fashionable entry to the smart wearables category, and they are powered by Android.
"Our customers are obsessed with their personal sense of style and staying connected, and we are thrilled to enter into this emerging category with an answer to their needs," said Jill Elliott-Sones, chief creative officer at Fossil, in a press release. "Fossil Q is the result of countless hours of meticulous design expressed through a playful curious lens. Our hope is the unique attention to detail in both our connected accessories line and app cue our audience to try new things, be more curious and experience the world around them like never before."
The Fossil Q line is comprised of two types of connected wearables, and two styles of connected bracelets: display and non-display; for men and for women. All models are designed to let users stay connected with their health and activity (fitness tracker) and connected to others (notifications and curiosity app), while staying in style.
First, check out the smartwatches.
Tech Crunch reports that, of the models, the Q Founder is the show-stealer. The result of a collaboration with Intel and Google, it is engineered with Intel Innovation and is powered by Android Wear technology. It is compatible with both Android and Apple iPhones, and will be available in time for the holidays, priced at $275.
Mashable's favorite, the Q Grant, is unassuming. It looks like an ordinary analog wristwatch, but under the hood it has many capabilities: it can sync with your smartphone; is a fitness tracker; and alerts you when important things like calls, texts, and other notifications come in. It will be available starting Oct. 25, and will cost from $175-$195.
Now for the bands, Fossil Q has two models.
According the TC, the Q Reveler and Q Dreamer are fitness bands that offer fitness tracking and LED-notification capabilities, connected to a smartphone.
However, with the Q Dreamer users can choose from a leather and a silicone band, so that it can be used for different occasions. It's “a fitness tracker and more that looks like one of your favorite bracelets,” according to the Fossil press release.
Both alert users of any notification via vibrations and flashing LEDs (that can be color-customized, based on the user's preferences).
Both fitness bands will be available starting Oct. 25 along with the Q Grant, and will sell at $125 apiece.
