'Kingsman 2' Release Date Confirmed, Colin Firth Not Coming Back? -- What We Know So Far! [Rumors]

For those who watched “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” this is going to be good news for you. The sequel, Kingsman 2, has been confirmed for release on June 16, 2017, and is currently in the works.

According to Screen Crush, for a movie that earned a staggering $413.3 million from a modest $81 million production base, a sequel was expected to come. And with director Matthew Vaughn and actor Taron Egerton both reportedly coming back, 20th Century Fox may just be on a roll.

Slashfilm notes that Kingsman: The Secret Service is based on a comic book made by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millan. The film was centered on a working-class Londoner named Eggsy (played by Egerton) who gets recruited by a man named Harry (played by Colin Firth) into an elite spy organization named “Kingsman.”

The story revolved around Eggsy's training, and the organization Kingsman's attempts to foil an evil plot formed by a billionaire (played by Samuel L. Jackson).

The apparent success of the first film made sure a sequel is coming. Vaughn is reportedly working on the script, although it isn't clear as to who will be directing it. Additionally, Vaughn hasn't revealed any detail as to which of the characters will be returning along with Eggsy.

One crucial thing that fans would want to know right now is if Firth will be returning. Currently, his return for the sequel is still unconfirmed, according to SC. Harry reportedly died midway through the story, which blurs his return for the next installment.

However, if the public will demand for it, Vaughn said he could find a way for Firth to have a role in the script. His return will be good news for fans, and even comic maker Millar, who told IGN that he wants Firth back for the sequel.

“That's the conversation everyone's having right now, because part of what made that movie work is Colin. Colin's fantastic, it was a two-hander, that film. You also want to have the integrity of the story, so if you are bringing him back, it has to make sense,” said Millar.

“That's where it is at the moment. Beats of the story have been done. [Screenplay co-writers] Matthew [Vaughn] and Jane [Goldman] are working on it at the moment. Some things have to be worked out, some decisions have still to be made and everything, so it's all fairly amorphous, but all going well.”

There you have it. Stay tuned for more updates on Kingsman 2.
