If news about Kate Middleton and Prince William is not enough, now, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's love story is rumored to get a big screen treatment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS Films is adapting the novel "The Royal We" by Jessica Morgan and Heather Cocks, the creators of the popular fashion blog Go Fug Yourself.
"The Royal We" tells the story of Rebecca Porter, which, according to Parade, is Kate Middleton's counterpart in the novel. Porter moves to England to study at Oxford University, where she meets Nicholas, a fellow student who she starts dating and eventually falls in love with. Unknown to her, Nicholas is a member of the royal family and is an heir to the throne.
People notes that similar to the royal couple, the secondary characters surrounding Nicholas and Rebecca also have counterparts in real life. In "The Royal We," Rebecca has a sister, Bex, who can be the figure for Pippa Middleton. Meanwhile, Nicholas, who is a military man, also has a redhead brother named Freddie with an famous mother that's been harassed by the paparazzi. "The Royal We" is published under Grand Central Publishing.
However, though "The Royal We" and the story of Kate and Prince William have a lot of similarities, Cocks and Morgan says that the characters they've created are different.
"It truly isn't Wills and Kate. Yes, it was an idea borne of watching their seemingly courtship in the media, but through Bex's eyes we had the freedom we needed to imagine all the potential behind-the-scenes emotions and conflicts of that love story," Cocks reveals to People.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman will be teaming up for "The Royal We's" film adaptation. The two have previously worked together in the TV drama, “Parenthood. “
Graham is reported to pen the script. Apart from acting on screen, the "Gilmore Girls" star is also known for her penchant in writing. She has published her own New York Times bestseller, "Someday, Someday, Maybe: A Novel."
Whitman, on the other hand, is reported to play Rebecca or, as Vanity Fair puts it, the "American Kate Middleton." If the reports are true, this will be a big break for Whitman as she will no longer play the supporting role.
Regarding Graham and Whitman's team-up, Cocks said to People, "Bex Porter loves junk food and bad TV, so she'd make a great honorary Gilmore Girl. And Mae is so funny and lively, but then can absolutely break your heart with tears. I made an extremely undignified yelping noise when this all came together. I can't imagine anyone but Lauren and Mae bringing this to life."
