Reese Witherspoon made "Legally Blonde" a rousing success with two films in the last decade and the actress said in a recent interview that it may be time to bring her character, Elle Woods, back.
Speaking on the Lifetime TV program "Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe," Reese, 39, teased, "I think we're ready to see Elle and see what she's up to lately," after being asked a fan question.
"A lot of writers over the years have come up with different ideas for it," the actress added, according to Variety. "I actually think it's kind of great right now because we're talking about women in politics and how important that is to get more women. And I think it'd be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office."
One of the hosts also suggested Elle could be the President of the United States and Reese thought that would be a great idea as well.
However, Reese admits she doesn't hold the cards to "Legally Blonde 3" actually happening and have little information about what's going on. She sheepishly told people on the show to give MGM studio a call, so they can confirm if there's indeed a new movie coming along.
The first time Reese did "Legally Blonde" was 14 years ago, according to The Washington Post and movie-goers fell in love with her character, who originally decided to study Harvard Law in the hopes of wooing her boyfriend back. But Elle managed to help crack a case that saved a famous fitness guru from ending up in prison for murder. So well-loved was Elle that the movie spawned a sequel, "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde" in 2003, where Elle ended up in Congress and worked to ban animal testing on beauty products.
Both movies grossed more than a hundred million each worldwide during its run. A Broadway musical based on the movie also debuted in 2007, while a straight-to-video spinoff was released in 2009. It starred twin sisters Milly and Becky Rosso.
Back in 2013, Jennifer Coolidge, Reese's co-star in the movie, said that Reese turned down a third film before, but cited there was a good reason. "She had a baby at home or two babies at home and she was doing Legally Blonde during the day. It was bizarre how much that girl can handle. I was blown away by her," Coolidge said, according to Digital Spy.
