During a press conference at the Paris Games Week, Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco announced that "Tekken 7" will be released in both the Playstation 4 and Playstation VR.
According to Gamespot, the popular fighting game is already found in many arcades in Japan and arcade test sites across North America were also conducted over the summer. The console version will apparently have other features that are not available in the arcade game, but Harada gave no other details about its release.
An IGN report also stated that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe President and CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that "Tekken 7" will be available for the Playstation VR, but additional details were unavailable. Playstation VR is Sony's first virtual reality headset, which will be launched during the first quarter of 2016, according to BBC.
According to the Playstation blog, the news of the Playstation 4 "Tekken" release comes as the franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Fans will be in for a treat as the game will have "highly detailed characters and dynamic environments," as well as "numerous modes along with an intensive canon storyline." Other enhancements to the franchise will be eventually revealed by the gaming company, including possible new characters, new gameplay and video teasers.
According to Gematsu, the game's story will center on Kazumi Mishima and will highlight a battle between her and her husband Heihachi Mishima, who is one of the game's original characters along with their son, Kazuya Mishima. The news outlet mentioned that the title will be released via XBox One as well.
"Tekken 7" was first announced as in development back in July 2014, where Bandai Namco said that it will be using Unreal Engine 4, according to another Gamespot report. The technology allows for powerful high-quality visuals that work compatibly with any platform. The game was finally made available at Japan arcades in March 2015.
Since its original launch 20 years ago, the "Tekken" franchise spawned over nine sequels, including "Tekken: Tag Tournament" and "Tekken: Dark Resurrection." Primarily created as an arcade game, it became high in demand among platforms like the Playstation and its succeeding inceptions, Game Boy Advance, Xbox 360, iOS and Android, according to its official website.
The fighting game has reaped so much success to emerge as the best-selling fighting game of all time, according to Event Hubs. It has also spun comics and animated films. A "Tekken" remake is also reportedly in the works, according to Variety.
