With just a few months away before "Deadpool," the red-clad antihero with a cocky personality, hits the big screen, Fox has only confirmed one mutant to appear in the highly anticipated movie. In "Deadpool's" trailer, Colossus, the gigantic member of the X-Men, is seen crushing Deadpool into a car. However, according to Andre Tricoteux, the actor who plays the giant mutant, Colossus will have a significant role in "Deadpool's" storyline.
In an interview with Tech Times, Tricoteux talked about his character plot and the upcoming film from Fox, which, according to Yahoo!, is eager to regain momentum and expand their superhero universe after the menial success of "Fantastic Four."
Tricoteux told Tech Times that Colossus, whose real name is Piotr Rasputin, will stay true to his comic book character. He said, "The Colossus you're going to see in Deadpool is very true to the original character in the comic book. [Director] Tim Miller had a really clear vision, and the Deadpool people had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story."
Meanwhile, "Deadpool" creator Rob Liefield, also confirmed during the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con about Colossus' role per Games Radar. He said, "You are going to love Colossus. He’s in it – I hope Fox doesn’t get mad at me – he’s in it a good amount. He doesn’t just walk through the movie."
Tricoteux added, via Tech Times, that fans will see more of the gigantic X-Men member in "Deadpool." By staying true to his comic book characterization, viewers will have a clearer idea of who Colossus is as well as his "outlook on the world." He even added that since Colossus has been around in the comics since the 1970s, a separate movie based solely on his storyline and character can be possible. The giant member of X-Men's superhuman strength comes from his ability to "transform his body tissue into an organic, steely substance."
When asked about his level of familiarity with Colossus' character, Tricoteux revealed that apart from studying up for the role, his brother is his "go-to guy" about Colossus-related information because it's his favorite character.
Yahoo! notes that Tricotruex is the second actor to play Colossus. In previous X-Men films such as "Days of Future Past," Daniel Cudmore had portrayed the gigantic mutant. However, what makes Tricotruex's role different is his character's level of involvement in the story, which is different from Cudmore, who just "stood in the film for a few seconds as a brief cameo."
Tricotruex will join fellow "Deadpool" cast members Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein and T.J. Miller. "Deadpool" is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 5, 2016 in the U.K. and Feb. 12, 2016 in the U.S., per Games Radar.
