Multi-player shooting game "Titanfall" is making its return, but it may not be what fans of the game are expecting.
Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment spoke with Venture Beat and said that "Titanfall 2" will have its big year for 2016. The company has partnered with Nexon, a free-to-play game publisher, in the release of "Titanfall's" sequel in the mobile platform.
According to Gamespot, "Titanfall 2" was first announced as in development back in March 2015 with Respawn Entertainment saying it will be made available in numerous platforms. While the game was formerly exclusive to the PC and Xbox console, the company only this week confirmed that the platform they were referring to is on mobile, and it's one that fans did not expect, according to Mashable.
Zampella justified the move by telling Venture Beat, "For us, it is exciting to take this universe we created that is so extensible. In my head, there are so many things we can do with it. To be able to partner with Nexon and take this game to a whole new audience is really exciting."
In an interview with Polygon, Zampella and Nexon head Owen Mahoney further shared their plans for "Titanfall 2" on mobile. He emphasized the company was careful to make sure the game is appropriate for the mobile platform. "We're not of the view that you take a first-person shooter that's great on a console and PC and just put it on mobile," said Mahoney. "You have to work with what the platform can do."
Zampella noted that the mobile version is "another piece of the universe" of "Titanfall" and some of the elements from the main game that gamers would normally disregard are much more present and defined in this other platform.
Developing "Titanfall" for the mobile isn't going to be a one-time thing, too, as Nexon revealed they have plans to make their partnership with Respawn Entertainment productive for the next few years. "So let's keep investing in it over time," Mahoney further said in the Polygon interview. "[Respawn] take a very different view than most of us in the industry. When they started talking about where they could take the Titanfall universe, it was very exciting for us."
In the meantime, Zampella told fans that the release of "Titanfall 2" in 2016 will be "worth the wait," according to the Gamespot report.
Apart from Nexon, Respawn Entertainment has also partnered with Los Angeles studio Particle City in developing the next "Titanfall." The company is partly founded by Zampella, who serves as the studio's creative director, reported Polygon.
