Jessa Duggar Seewald gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Thursday night. For years, the Duggar family has practiced giving birth at home, and Jessa was no exception. However, according to an exclusive report from TMZ, Jessa's home birth did not go as planned and the "19 Kids and Counting" star had to be rushed to the hospital.
Jessa, who just recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Ben Seewald, planned to give birth in one of the Duggar family houses in Fayetteville, Ark., but the family had to ask for an ambulance to take Jessa to a local hospital while in labor. Apparently, Baby Seewald, who's named has not yet been revealed, was too big that the 22-year-old mom can't deliver it in their home. Baby Seewald was nine pounds and 11 ounces and was almost 21 inches long. Details on what exactly happened that prompted the Duggar family to call for an ambulance were not revealed.
Enstars recalls that Jessa's sister, Jill, also experienced complications during birth back in April. Jill planned to have home birth, but because she was overdue for two weeks, doctors said that it would be best to give birth in a medical facility. As a result, Jill had a C-section, which she and husband Derick Dillard did not expect.
Now, on the popular gossip blog Celebitchy, Jessa and the whole Duggar family are being slammed regarding their decision on having home birth, considering their history of complicated pregnancies.
One commenter said, "I know it's a huge personal opinion but j just can't get behind home births. Too risky and I don't understand why anyone would willingly do it."
Meanwhile, another commenter questions why the Duggar wants to take a risk over a family member's safety. The commenter said, "I have watched too many births go wrong while in a hospital, 30 feet from an OR, to ever let anyone I love try for a home birth. I don't care how safe someone claims they are, if you need an emergency c section, you want to be as close to that OR as possible. Why risk it?!"
"I think it’s bordering on insane to do a home birth. Who wants to be transferred to a hospital before, during or after they are giving birth? Why on earth would you take the risk? Minutes could mean the difference between you or your baby’s life or death," said another commenter.
Meanwhile, Jessa and Ben unveiled the first pictures of the Duggars’ youngest member on their website. It also showed the first family portrait of Ben, Jessa and their son.
What do you think of the Duggars’ decision to practice home birth, is it risky or not?
