American country music artist Chely Wright is a mom.
The 42-year-old singer and wife Lauren Blitzer-Wright welcomed their identical twin baby boys George Samuel and Everett Joseph, Saturday, May 18, reports People magazine.
"We are grateful for all the amazing medical care and the love and support of family and friends," Wright told the magazine.
Wright, who started performing from her high school days, got engaged to LGBT rights advocate Lauren Blitzer in April 2011 and tied the knot in August. The couple announced pregnancy on Howard Bragman's YouTube show Gwissues in January. The babies were due in July. However, the expecting couple had been anticipating an early birth from the very beginning of their pregnancy.
"We're excited to be parents and we hope we don't mess it up too badly!" People quoted Wright telling Bragman while announcing pregnancy, adding that they are expecting their babies before the due date, as "with identical twins they typically have to be delivered a month early."
In March, Wright revealed the gender of her unborn babies. "We're having two little boys," Wright told Bragman, according to People. "They're healthy babies. They're getting fat, thanks to my help. Everything looks good."
The arrival of the little boys is definitely going to strengthen the relationship between the couple. "When gay couples have babies it's logistically a little different than when straight people have babies as we all know," Wright, who is a gay rights activist, explained during the pregnancy announcement in January. "We feel like God blessed us with twins," she added. "We feel our entire relationship has been blessed. We feel lucky and ready to take on the challenges."
Apart from singing, Wright, who has seven studio albums to her credit, has also tried her hand at composing songs.
