More than a decade after the clownfish was found in “Finding Nemo,” Pixar Studios has released the trailer to the sequel “Finding Dory.”
Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) is remembered by fans as the wide-eyed blue tang that has a short-term memory problem. According to the Christian Science Monitor, in the new movie, she appeared to have remembered something important: “My family,” Dory said, “they're out there somewhere.”
The trailer also showed Dory's sleep-swimming habits, which meant that there has to be some companion in her journey to find her family, which will take her to the Monterey Marine Life Institute in California. This is where the worrisome neighbor Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) comes in.
The Washington Post reported that Pixar director Bob Peterson, when working on 2003's “Finding Nemo,” expressed enjoyment over working with these voice actors.
“Albert Brooks has such great comic timing … ,” Peterson, who co-wrote “Finding Nemo,” told the Post. “And one of my favorites is Ellen DeGeneres. … She figured out her own ‘whalespeak.’ She was great.”
Pixar's “Finding Nemo” was an early release for the studio, albeit doing very well – being the highest-grossing Pixar film released to date, and the highest-grossing computer animated film of all time before “Shrek 2.”
Slashfilm reported that “Finding Dory” is set for release in 2016, and will have returning voice actors DeGeneres and Brooks. A new cast of characters include Ed O'Neill (playing a “cantankerous octopus” named Hank); Ty Burrell (as Bailey, a “misguided beluga whale”); and Kaitlin Olsen (playing the role of a “kind-hearted whale shark”).
It is reported that Diane Keaton will also star in, playing Dory's mom; while Eugene Levy plays as Dory's dad. Idris Elba and Dominic West are also joining, although their character details are still unannounced.
Movie Pilot added that viewers can expect John Ratzenberger to be part of the cast, as he has been part of every Pixar film to date. He voiced the Moonfish in “Finding Nemo,” and fans can expect his return.
One voice actor who won't return, however, is the original Nemo. Alexander Gould is already 21, and has a deep voice now. Hayden Rolence will take over the role of Nemo. Although the voice actors are different, MP reported that Nemo still sounds “pretty much the same.”
“Finding Dory” releases in theaters June 17, 2016. For now, watch the trailer.
