Jessa Duggar Seewald On Her Home Birth, Describes 'Very Intense' Labor; Couple's Newborn FaceTimes with Cousin Izzy [See Here!]

Everything did not turn out as planned for Jessa Duggar Seewald's delivery of their first child with Ben Seewald. Parent Herald previously reported how Jessa and the Duggar's practice of having homebirth was slammed by critics who thought that it was too "risky." However, despite the allegations, Jessa, 22, and Ben, 20, clear the air to People, explaining what happened during Jessa's labor at their Arkansas home and why she was rushed to the hospital.

"Labor is hard. It was very intense, very long. Everything was different than I expected," Jessa opens up to People.

Apparently, Jessa was in labor for almost 48 hours before giving birth to their as-yet-unnamed son, who weighed 9 lb., 11 oz., and measures 21.5 inches. Considering how large Baby Seewald was, Jessa indeed had a hard time. After 10 hours of contraction, the new mom almost gave up on having an all-natural home birth, but decided to push through.

She said, "I said, 'That's it! I'm done! I am going to the hospital and I'm going to get an epidural.' They asked me if I really wanted to do that and I said, 'No, I don't, but I do.' I wanted to try natural if at all possible."

Baby Seewald arrived at 6:45 a.m. on Nov. 5, but to Jessa’s surprise, that was not the end of it. After delivering Baby Seewald, she began bleeding profusely, which concerned her midwife. Then, the Duggars family's matriarch, Michelle, called 911.

While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Jessa recalled that she "tried to keep [her] head" and was "awake and alert."

Meanwhile, during her wife's labor, Ben told People that it was "emotionally difficult" to see his wife in so much pain. "I was trying to keep it positive ... there were a few times, she was like, 'I can't do this.'"

Jessa shared that while in the hospital, she had to undergo blood transfusion and nearly fainted, but the hardest part of all was leaving his newborn son right after giving birth. "I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that. And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock," she told People.

Now, Jessa is back at their home in Springdale, Ark., and it looks like the new generation of Duggars is getting acquainted with each other.

Us Weekly reported that Baby Seewald and Jill Duggar's son Israel had their first meeting via FaceTime. Ben posted the picture via Twitter, showing Baby Seewald fast asleep while Israel, 7 months, looks at his newborn cousin.
