Johnny Depp's Wife Amber Heard Slams Split Rumors, Says Being a Stepmom is The 'Greatest Gift'

Amber Heard graced the cover of the December 2015 issue of Marie Claire. In it, she opened up about her marriage to Hollywood star Johnny Depp and her relationship with her husband's children from a previous relationship.

Amber told the magazine that there have been many "horrible misrepresentation of our lives," in response to stories going around that her marriage to Depp is in the pits. The two's controversial relationship made headlines from the beginning because they started dating soon after Depp ended his long-term relationship with Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his kids, Lily Rose, 16, and Jack, 13.

"I try not to react," said Amber. "But it is strange and hard."

Amber married Depp in February this year after being engaged in January 2014, per E! Online. It is the first marriage for the actress and the second for the actor, who was married to makeup artist Lori Anne Allison in the 80s. Depp was not married the mother of his kids, but they were together for 14 years.

Meanwhile, Amber also remarked about her step children, calling them the "greatest, most surprising gift." "I feel new flavors that I didn't know existed. New colors that I didn't know existed have been added to my life. I'm so happy," she told Marie Claire.

The 29-year-old actress was linked to photographer Tasya van Ree before dating Depp and her sexuality has been the subject of other stories as well. "I don't want to have to deny my sexuality in order to be me. But I don't want to have to be defined by it," the actress told The Times Magazine back in June. "I didn't want to look like I was hiding anything. I'm not, and wasn't ever, ashamed."

She also expressed the same tough, no-nonsense stance when talking to Marie Claire about gay rights. "No matter what people want to label me as, I still fight for equality, and I think popular opinion will catch up," Amber said. "I think our generation sees themselves as part of a larger global community, and therefore, it's harder to enact basic tribalistic prejudices based on ignorance and hate."

Indeed, Amber is part of a generation that pushes equality forward. She applies the same notion when it comes to her work ethics, too. She revealed that she works hard despite her husband's lucrative career because, "The notion of someone supporting me would be absurd to me."
